AS TOLD TO A TREE IN THE PARK
I don't know why I came to stand
Under your cold bony fingers reaching for the sky
Don't see how I could have been such a man
To have based my love upon a lie
I'm sure you remember nine months ago
She and I sat in your shade
We kissed and she told me, "I love you"
Under the shadow you so easily gave
Yes, way back then in the warmth of the Spring
The world was mine for the taking
Little did I know I had such a tender thing,
A heart, ripe for it's own breaking
You watched in painful silence
As she carved into your bark
Her name, my name, the date we met
And a cute lopsided heart
Inside you said, "I'm just an old tree
That stands rooted in the park
But if it's the last thing I ever do
I'm going to break that lover's heart"
So as I stand in these arctic gusts
It seems your prophecy's been fullfilled
My reason for living up and left last night
And my spirit......It's just been killed
