I just thought it was interesting. Are there “Unemployed Leagues” today? The Unemployed League was a seemingly well-intentioned self-help group which apparently fizzled when the self-help regimen did not lead to jobs for its card-carrying members. From the looks of this membership card it appears the league itself did not pay to create the cards but solicited local businesses to sponsor the printing of the credentials. How many of these cards survive? Who was Chester Harris? Who was Louis Salvadore? I find a house at this address on satellite imagery but is it the same roof under which he lived, and where he carefully stashed this card among other ephemera of his days which travelled, 75 years later, \u00a0from 805 Peace Street in Pennsylvania to PO Box 181, NYC?\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
