At the time I thought it uncomfortable that a preacher&#8217;s job would rely on their charisma, but it was a not-so-subtle secret that this person was auditioning for a job as community preacher and man of God. I had never imagined that jobs like this came with interviews and test sermons. It seemed like a role one was born into or otherwise acquired, but not a job one aspired to.
