\t\t\t\tFebruary 1 2012 feels like a summer night in May. what planet is this?<\/p>\n
I got a lot of walking in today not wanting to miss out on the perfect-seeming weather. i walked over the queensboro bridge intending to walk right back but instead i hopped on the tram and went to roosevelt island. as per every visit i make to that place i saw a double amputee on a gurnee. that is a strangely clustered atmosphere there with housing projects abutting semi-fancy high-rises abutting a rehab facility for people who lost limbs. and people in wheelchairs are everywhere. nothing is wrong with any of these things but the proximities seem strange to me.<\/p>\n
i was payphone hunting which was not my original plan but the pursuit was fun and slightly obsessive. this subject of payphones is fun for me again. maybe more fun than it has ever been. and mine, as i like to say, is the house that payphones built. so i gotta pay some respect to the pursuit.<\/p>\n
the tram to roosevelt island made me feel a bit nauseous. that was unexpected. some days heights afflict me other days they do not. the Tram is one of the safest transportation devices ever produced, but it’s not about a legitimate fear of plunging to a watery demise in the east river. i feel similar senses of existential vertigo when i reach the highest part of the Triborough. it is a feeling that i might rise into the air and involuntarily be cast into the river below. and that feeling becomes overwhelming. atop the Triborough i clutch the railing in anticipation that the soles of my feet will soon be reaching toward the sky.<\/p>\n

if there be any residual sourness over last nights abandonment of the Philip Glass concert at Carnegie Hall it is that it ends that relationship i was in earlier. we had sort of planned to see Tosca (i never should have bought the tickets but that is another story). i found a friend who was happy to use the extra ticket. we were then supposed to go see this concert last night. an acquaintance was more than happy to accept my invitation but he had to cancel at the last minute. so i sold the tickets.<\/p>\n
this was the last lingering pre-planned date night of another failed relationship. Now, now it is finished.<\/p>\n
dating therapists must have a term for that: the tickets bought and the plans made for a date that never quite was because the 2 parties broke up. the lingering ghost of responsibility. the lingering ghost of companionship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
