How did I forget to mention this earlier? At Madison and 42nd I saw him today, quite a ways outside of his usual habitue. Normally I see him in and around Rockefeller Center, idling away or reading a newspaper at one of the tables in the Concourse. He is insane. Quietly so, but he is insane. I’ve written about him elsewhere. He is elderly, and any time I see him he looks one step closer to the grave, as I suppose we all do in our subtle ways. He may have inspired a eureka moment in me today, though. I’m keeping it under wraps for now (not that anybody actually reads this) because anonymity could be key to the project.<\/p>\n
I am starting to think it could be interesting to putter around among the billionaires as an outsider. Maybe only millionaires. I don’t think billionaires inhabit public spaces, or even the residences they own nearby.<\/p>\n
Much of the writing I’ve found regarding NYC’s public spaces reads like propaganda. A brief bit about the Citi Building space suggest that a group of regulars inhabits the space, like barflies sans alcohol. I never thought of these places as social hubs, or sources of new friends, but hey why not?<\/p>\n
At the ghetto coffee shop again. Lyin’-ass GPS says I’ve walked 11.97 miles today. It does not really feel like all that. I brought headphones and iPod but somehow neglected to use them on the bridge, per my plan. I also forgot to pack a sammich, but the California Pizza Kitchen hit the spot, and for no cost to me. I made it to and from Manhattan not a penny poorer. There must be a song or jingle in that comment.<\/p>\n
The 181 visit was a fail. A sign saying service would resume at 1:30 was still present by 2pm, and no one answered the doorbell. Lucky it’s nothing important that I need.<\/p>\n
