A lightweight but handy thing to have at the ready.

Feeling one shade closer to normal for not drinking. I mean it’ only been a couple of days and I managed to get through the nigh without taking another anxiety pill, but it was rough. Felt like I was experiencing every freakin’ minute of trying to sleep. Maybe shoulda taken a ½ a pill but I don’t like pills.

Guess it will be a while before things get really back to normal. Snow mounds will linger for months in some places. I remember black mountains of snow in the Costco parking lot well into May one year.

Looked out the window and saw small armies of people shoveling snow. I don’t pay attention much in years past but it really seemed like way more people than I’ve seen in years past. People were grousing among themselves about people shoveling snow into their yards or onto their space. I remember when I had a car and parked it in a driveway. There was a balcony over the driveway. It filled up with snow which the asshole resident dumped right onto my car. I was annoyed but you know, I’d probably do the same thing. I mean what else do you do? Maybe dump it to one side or the other but that would either have blocked the door to the building or … well I don’t remember what dumping it to the other side would have done, but I didn’t begrudge the asshole for dumping their snow on my car.

Just happened to spot a message board forum from a few years ago where folks are talking about going without booze for a while. Totally random to my current situation. Dude says he goes for long walks in the woods to burn the nervous energy. Wish I could do that. Hard to walk far at all now with the snow, but I made it to the ghetto coffee shop. The guy also said that drinking ruined two days: the day he drank and the day after. I’m like dude, how much do you drink? Then he ended his discussion cryptically, saying he hadn’t had a drink in 2 years because something fucked up happened to make this occur. He didn’t say what that fucked up thing was, but earlier he said he’d been to inpatient detox a number of time and countless group meetings.

Watched an entire football game for the first time all season, I think. Wait that’s not true, but it’s the first time I watched a full game without conversation and such taking my attention away. Not that I am complaining about the company and conversation that has accompanied a good many NFL games this year, just remarking that I haven’t been too connected to the games so far. Happy to see Peyton Manning win, and Tom Brady lose.

something new to add to the getaway bag: plastic forks and spoons. thought of that a long time ago but never did it.
