Coffee is half what it costs at the ghetto coffee shop but tastes like it’s been sitting here for 6 days. A bunch of kids were sitting at the counter of the ghetto shop. No room for me. Boo-hoo.

Spent the day looking for God. I think i might have found something at Grand Central Terminal. Ironically I had to wait while someone used one of the payphones.. He had a lengthy conversation. It was like driving a car and having to stop to wait for unicorns to cross. I forgot, however, that hose phones at GC are programmed to allow for 15-minutes of call time. I was saying into my field recorder that this guy couldn’t be much longer, what with the 3-minute time limit on payphone calls. But these phones are different. In the meantime i looked for God on the other phones and found some clues but will have to monkey around with the pictures. it’s a hard message to see, even when you are looking right at it. It’s not easy to scratch these words into steel but scatchiti artists generally used a common screwdriver, I read somewhere.

What I think I found today was more like blunt etchings. More interesting is what I found last night. I randomly spotted a series of pictures I took in 2012 of some phones that were underneath the Manhattan Mall, by the PATH station. They are gone now (I walked all the way there today!) but the photos I got in 2012 were actually pretty good, and should back up a chapter of the book about scratchiti artists. I have the hardest time getting good photos of these scratches. It’s a pretty obscure subject for a photo. I made the mistake of bringing only the zoom lens today when obviously an F1 lens would be more appropriate. I have not brought the DSLR out much lately.

I circle back at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, just on the off chance that I might spot some scratches on those phones, but I was out of luck. I did not expect it. I thought there might be some because the photos from 2012 were all G-TEL phones, and the PABT phones are also G-TEL. So I thought there might be some consistency on account of that. Nope.

PABT is one depressing shithole. I remembered one of the first times I ever passed through there, looking for a bathroom. It felt like I might die from some horrible lecherous creep reaching into my face and pulling out my innards. That memory, from about 25 years ago, came pouring through my mind today. Somehow the site of a certain set of stairs reminded me that I had felt lost in this place trying to find the bathroom all those years ago. PABT is not so skeevy today but it’s still pretty rank.

I alsp notice that the Wakamba bar is no longer called “The Distinguished Wakamba Lounge” or whatever it used to be called. Now it’s something generic, it was something like D.B.A. Pisces Entertainment’s Wakamba. I went there once with a friend who now lives in Brooklyn, and another time with someone at a company where I used to work. That guy took one look at the place and said “Dude, I got news for you. That’s a gay bar.” He was wrong, but the place being a sausagefest must have influenced his thinking. A very odd place, that Wakamba, at least it was the times I went.

At Rockefeller Center I saw a small crew filming somebody I associate with an HBO series that I can’t remember the name of. i dobn’t get HBO but I know this guy is pretty well known famous type and it’s only bugging me beause i can’t think of his name or the show. I couldl be wrong about the HBO connection.

Earlier I saw a small army of personnel filming what looked like 2 or 3 people outside Bryant Park. I remember seeing a sign that said you could get free training to get a job working on one of those crews, but you had to be able to spend several months unpaid, working long long hours. It sounded like something for trust fund babies. Any time I see these enormous crews working on a shoot it’s like nobody is doing anything.

OK, there is no heat in this place. I gotta go.

At a strange little place called Twist Market.
