A white hot sidewalk
\nopened up to me today at
\nRockefeller Center, in a
\nplace where no miracle could occur a
\nblistered carpet removed from a
\nconcourse closet was unrolled,
\nseducing to usher me to glory,
\nto the hot shine of responsibility,
\nto the houses I’ve known and the
\nhomes that remain strangers.<\/p>\n
There is a blister in every
\nsecond of my life’s work, a
\ncoarse firmament that fits like a
\nskull over baldly hot deposits of
\nthis body’s tainted waste water.
\nI dream that deep columns of pus
\nejaculate from my legs and armpits.
\nI fade to an un-proud sac of
\ntumescent liquid and rotting bone when the
\nhorizon of retroactive loneliness
\nswallows my beautiful day.<\/p>\n
The moment sold for a half-penny on the eyeball,
\nsold again for a half-dollar on the nervous tic,
\nthen vanished into the choking toilet of
\nhuman beings skating on the
\nice rink’s melted surface and
