Hmm.

To me the most notable thing about the Georgia Diner was how its peach signage looked like a giant vagina. They also had a couple of non-working payphones in the foyer, and my attempt to photograph them was met with suspicious stares from a couple of people who worked there. That’s my picture above from January, 2007. I can’t say I spent much time or money at this place, but I associate it with the sessions I spent getting my eyeballs gouged at a nearby retinal specialist’s office. This was when doctors thought I might have macular degeneration. The Georgia Diner seemed claustrophobic and its interior somehow made me uneasy. It is, however, the only restaurant I’ve ever been in where I was able to order a banana. Well, it is the only place I ever requested that item. A banana just does not seem like something one orders separately at a regular sit down dining establishment, but I guess that kind of anything-you-want flexibility is what diners are all about. All of which reminds me of an early goal I had when moving to New York. I wanted to go to the fanciest place around, which at the time I thought would have been the Russian Tea Room or Petrossian, and order something like a a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a corn dog. I’ve never done that but some day…

Source: Georgia Diner in Elmhurst to close March 25 – Queens Chronicle: Central/Mid Queens News

To be replaced by a ‘181-foot-tall mixed-use tower’.
