USB 2.0 does not fully do video, but it’s OK for idle windows, like shell windows and stuff i’m just looking at while working on the bigger DVI fed screen

blhablahblahablhablha

now i have a relatively sprawling setup that is messy and annoying, but it’ll do for now, until i get a regular desktop next year.

or something.

i almost refused to enter DataVision because they maintain that archaic practice of confiscating customers’ belongings before allowing entry into the store. God, i hate bag check, and have long avoided entering any place that does that == including the New York Public Library == but i didn’t think too many places maintained that 1980s era ritual. but, well, as far as i can tell that store is the only one i felt like going to tha tmight have the cable, so i just winced as i handed over my belongings to a stranger, allowing him to do God knows what with them. i think that bag had about $300 worth of stuff in it. ahoy, all items were safe and sound when i got the back back just 5 or 6 minutes later, but the uncertainty and dismay i feel at surrendering my possessions to a nondescript stranger just to shop at a place is not one of life’s joys.

so, with a desktop esque setup and the requisite better posture that it implores of my body i think i might get some stuff done in the coming days. or i might recuse myself to failure. i have so much to do but this nonsense of lounging on the couch with the phat laptop has not been productive.

…..

there is an elderly man (laughing, i first typed “elf”) an elderly man i see in midtown. he frequently seems to be using a certain payphone near 5th Avenue in Rockefeller Center. i have begin to think he is not really using the phone, just looking like he is making calls and checking in with the office. he dresses very, very well. shoes shined, tie tied, his finger nails are quite long and his manner is of a storied dignity. he ambles with a poised but weathered gait. he consults papers and notes when he clutches the payphone, using the payphone enclosure like his office.

i think he is insane. when i first saw him i thought he as working, working something. sales? cold calls? real estate? who conducts business from a payphone these days? i see him there frequently, grousing and grumbling but seeming to studiously and deliberately go about his business, whatever that may be. i think there is none. he has no business, but he patrols midtown looking busy, looking like a mover or a shaker. looking busy. his finger nails are extremely long and i have seen his thumb fidget, his left thumb, scraping the inside of his palm, as his hunched shoulder cast breezes in the wake of his parade down 5th avenue.

he must be insane. he can’t be working. maybe it is a retirement fantasy of his. he never worked, or never rose to any role of prestige or esteem in the workerbee world. by looking busy he fills his reputation, fills it out among strangers who might see him and note his industriousness, his admirable dedication to working at whatever the fuck he works at, at that one particular payphone.

i should try that payphone. to see if it works. i should follow this man. i already have followed him. i should follow him for a day, and retrace his steps…

i saw him again today, after picking up some stuff from the 181. a 64gb SD memory card. a Woolrich shirt. Epson printer ink cartridges. an annoying looking magazine called WIT, which i thought was called TWIT.

the 64gb memory card shipped from Maspeth, the land of cemeteries. when i saw that in the return address i thought i might have gotten a reply from a cemetery in Middle Village that I wrote to. i wrote to complain that their web site used several images that were swiped from my web site without permission or attribution. they ignored my e-mail, and they did not write to me via US Post. no, the envelope from Maspeth was from J&R, the 64gb memory card which i do not really need but ordered anyway… i have enough memory cards now to shoot for all of next year.

i started piling up on the camera memory cards after the desktop blew up because i couldn’t decide how to arrange the backup for the pictures. this was assuming the laptop was a temporary work station. without suitable backup i have just been using memory cards like film, not erasing or formatting the cards after transferring the images to a hard drive, just throwing the little cards on a shelf until i can back things up better. betterly.

o, the monotony.

tonight i download a single user 2 copy license for MS Office 2010. that gets me 4000 bonus points on my credit card (worth $40), with the digital download promotion they’re having at amazon. yaaaaaay.

God my life is boring.

…..

i was up past 4am trying to convert the qosmio laptop into a 3 monitor desktop. i never had 3 monitors, only 2, but once you work on 2 screens for a while you can not go back to a single screen. i did my best, though, but the continuous alt/tab is enough to drive […]

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[29

post-2042","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-text","et-doesnt-have-format-content","et_post_format-et-post-format-standard
["GET
