Well, not that rowdy, but sufficiently irresponsible that the time at this festival would damage my reputation. and i thought it was great, this sense of reprieve from my seemingly illustrious future.

…..

i typed out a poem today, for reading into a payphone, for eventual use on my web site. i listened back to some of the stuff i put down the last few months, and while the quality of the content varies (mostly lurching into self-absorbed mediocrity) i am all the way in love with the sound. the rugged, monochrome sound of the landline, and the unpredictable sound world that surrounds a public payphone.

i explained this project to a friend the other night. he is CEO at a company you have probably heard of, but he does not think like a corporate CEO. he did not even need for me to explain the details of the project, about the sound world. he filled it all in himself, saying “that would be cool because of all the peripheral sounds you’d hear while you’re talking.” nad other such things. that’s not corporate CEO thinking. as i explained to him, i sinmply don’t belong in corporate because i am a creative person. there i no flattery (hah, almost said “fattery”) in dubbing oneself creative. in most contexts, corporate as well as interpersonal, being creative makes you a pain in the ass. my freind, as if to prove this point, described a former employee at his company who had these crazy habits of re-arranging or altogether removing furniture in conference rooms, forcing attendees to stand during meetings. this was someone’s idea of creative thinking, or something like it, but it mostly annoyed the shit out of people. i would never imagine doing something that obnoxious, but still, the actions of that now-fired employee are creative in nature, and i think that explains a lot about why he was so reviled. it’s corporate. if someone is thinking outside of the box then there must be something wrong with the box. most of the time when it comes to corporate the box is just fine, thank you very much, don’t bother me with your innovative thinking.

…..

i saw something slightly unnerving a little while ago. at the ATM i noticed a long line of people waiting to use the 2 ATMs at this one location. i quickly realized that someone using the 2nd ATM was troubled somehow, or confused. twice i noticed that the screen said “YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT FUNDS TO COMPLETE THIS TRANSACTION.” but he kept punching away at the screen, re-entering his PIN and re-dipping his bank card. three or four ATM receipts were printed, and he eventually seemed to realize that he was causing the small ATM space to be pretty crowded. he stood right next to the ATM, RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO IT, as others stepped up and did their business. it’s kind of unnerving when anyone stands right next to you as you enter your PIN and withdraw cash, but this troubled dude, who studied and scrutinized his ATM receipt like it was a profound mystery, was obviously not altogether there, not altogether sane. he was fidgeting and pacing in place, and he smelled pretty rugged. not that that, independent of other things, is a problem, i like to smell a little earthy myself when i’m working. but the full scenario of this torubled dude at the ATM was ennervating. some of us make $200 withdrawals while others can’t make a $20 withdrawal and can’t even figure out how to make a $20 withdrawal because they can’t understand or read the messages on the screen or the printouts on the receipts.

…..

tv is now set for wednesday delivery, 12/28. bigass tv. 70 fucking inches. it shall function as a computer monitor for part time, meaning i can write it off for a portion of the cost. am i ready for that monstrous quantity of glow. allegedly it only costs $22/year to run the thing. i don’t […]

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[29

post-2048","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-text","et-doesnt-have-format-content","et_post_format-et-post-format-standard
["GET
