Today was fun. I found (again) the pulpit at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I remember now the pulpit from my first weeks in New York. I had no idea that the sculptors in charge of that work also made dozens if not hundreds of the now-worn marble monuments at Old Calvary. Calvary is a product of the Archdiocese of New York based at St. Patrick’s Cathedral which is across the street from my 181.<\/p>\n
I blew several pounds of coin on a rare and old book about Calvary, published in 1880-something. I can not wait to see it.<\/p>\n
Today I blew $4 on a cup of coffee. It was on the 8th floor at Saks Fifth Avenue, and while one might expect to blow hundreds upon hundreds of pennies and nickels out of one’s ass for a cup of coffee at such an extravagently marvelous location I (as a coffee drinker) at the very least expected the coffee to be a grade of piss above diner-quality swill. But no. The conveyor belt service was charming but the coffee was swill.<\/p>\n
I have never felt worthy of St. Patrick’s. It seems like a competitive space, favored by Old Money, New Money, and Cash Cash Money. Some day I will make it to a service there but after 19 years in this town I still feel like God is too expensive for me. Please understand (dear God) that I am forever a child inside.<\/p>\n
