\t\t\t\tMaybe installing this Plugable (yes, that is how the company spells its name) UGA-2K-A device was not so smart. It’s a USB 2.0 Display Adapter that should allow me to extend the computer from 2 screens to three, specifically enlisting an unused HDMI input on a giant 70″ TV set and blasting MS Word and simple text documents into needlessly high resolution and size.<\/p>\n

There are other ways to accomplish this (a USB 3.0 adapter would certainly be preferred) but I found this Plugable product in the closet and figured I’d put it to use. I have no memory of buying it but evidently that is what I did in December, 2011. It’s been sitting there unused until today.<\/p>\n

Installation seemed to be going as expected until I noticed this cranky message:<\/p>\n

A video card disappearing from the system sounded bad. I expected things to go dark and that this was just a warning message preceding the explosion and obliteration of both computer monitors and the television.<\/p>\n

It seems that the culprit was the Open broadcaster Software which I use to stream myself playing piano. It was broadcasting while the drivers for this Plugable device were being installed, and apparently it took umbrage at the addition of the UGA-2K-A as a virtual graphics adapter. Seems to be okay now after shutting down and restarting Open Broadcaster.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
