Four days away from this place feels like a lot longer. Two days spending possibly too much time in 100+ degree weather seems to have done me well. I felt like my body was just gorging on sunlight and sweat. Sleeps have been peaceful, thanks partly to a successful air conditioner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is someone here who has a morning ritual that involves shaking a cylinder-shaped container with some combination of liquids and solid food. It makes a type of noise that evokes a certain cocktail preparation I remember hearing at the bar. I don’t remember the cocktail, only the sharp popping noise caused by its concoction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On occasion he does this at the refrigerator with the door open as he is slightly bent over in advance of placing the container into the refrigerator. It completely looks like he is masturbating inot the refrigerator.. The accomopanying sound lelads me to imagine what testicular condition one might have which causes their balls to make a popping noise when shaken or unsettled. What a world it would be if male masturbation was universally accompanied by that or some kind of signature noise that sends a signal that someone is masturbating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is the fapping sound, but if one chooses to take care of themself in a public or shared bathroom I would think many men are discrete enough to be quiet about it. Or what do I know? I don’t recall ever hearing anything but farts and groans and trickles of liquid from neighboring bathroom stalls. Oh, and phone conversations, of course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The elevator at Cortlandt Street is busted today, and it likely will be for some time to come. That disrupts my morning ritual but not too brutally. I must now enter the Oculus and use the elevators or escalators. The stairs at Courtlandt are just a little too much for me some mornings. It adds minutes and minutes matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I did my duties, whatever that means and whatever makes me feel a lingering obligation. I scanned and posted the penultimate issue of Apology Magazine to archive.org. The only issue left is the last one published before he died. I suspect I’ll never procure a copy of that one. The content of the issue I scanned lately was more interesting than I expected, but Allan’s incongruously jocular presence remains an irritant to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was reminded of the question for which we will never have an answer. Was he a suicide? He was an experienced scuba diver of many years, did not do drugs, so how did he end up in an active boating channel where a boat, likely unbeknownst to the boater, struck and killed him? This was an area no seasoned diver should have entered. Or so I’ve been told by those closer than I to the matter. I can say that in our conversations he revealed obvious depressive signals and disappointments with his work. Being that way myself perhaps causes me to make too much of his comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just did some research and I’m wrong about one thing. He was hit by a jet skier, not a boat. I had been told directly by someone with knowledge of the mattere that it was a boat. Guess I never read the obits. Why am I still thinking about this? Scanning the magazine was a good deed, I guess? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On closer inspection I find that the NY TImes obit said it was “possibly a jet-ski” craft that struck him. I guess we don’t really know what hit him or if the person who hit him was aware.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
