If you (like me) consider our society&#8217;s pace of expansion\u00a0to be unsustainable then the orgiastic erection\u00a0of countless ultra-luxury structures in Queens and Manhattan\u00a0must seem like an\u00a0apocalyptic foreboding. All these buildings\u00a0can only come down. It reminds me\u00a0how, on the day of 9\/11, I looked at the tall buildings of the garment district and midtown and asked to myself &#8220;Is all this going to be gone soon?&#8221; That sentiment seems ludicrous now that we know the resources available to those who attacked us that day.\u00a0But as more and more\u00a0thousand-unit buildings rise up I\u00a0find myself asking the question again.
