I was looking for her. I saw her. She saw me. We saw each other, as she stepped up the staircase at 57th Street and I remained seated in the front car of the R train. I usually see her in that car but this day I guess she didn’t make it that far. My wayward look could have been interpreted as me simply turning to see what station the train was at. That’s my story, should this evolve into a devolvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The OMNY continues to flumox and irritate. It took a while for me to accept that in lieu of the old 30-day unlimited it now seems I have to pay weekly for unlimited 7-day passes, paying the same amount for 28 days as I used to pay for 30. It seem wrong, somehow, but I can’t care or it will poison me. The more concerning and downright nervewracking situation is when OMNY just randomly decides to reject my card for lack of funds. This will happen arbitrarily and without sufficient notification. Last Monday I boarded an N without incident at about 5:30am. That afternoon, about 1:30pm, attempting to enter the Cortlandt\/WTC 1 train station returned a “card not accepted” message. I later checked my email and found that around 9am OMNY had sent me a malformed email message with bits of computer prrogramming\/template language interjected where account-specific content was supposed to be. It said that auto-reload failed and the payment method was invalid. Why? Auto-renew was not supposed to happen until Tuesday. To get home that evening I had to, once again, put MORE MONEY on the card. Same scenario as a couple of weeks prior when, without explanation or apology, auto-payment failed to occur and I woke up to a card with no value on it. Early in the OMNY era I encountered the bizarre-seeming “negative value” warning but I thought auto-payment on a 7-day schedule would make this product actually work. If this shit happens to me it certainly happens to others and all these little incidents where we have to add more money to the card must be a fucking jackpot for the MTA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even as I type these words I feel the futility and hear how hoarse and useless this is. I sound like cranky fuck but why not? I’m not wealthy and every incident of feeling like I’m being robbed just to continue using the train\u00a0 for which I had already paid up front…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yeah. I’ll stop. Honesty is expensive. At the Cortlandt 1\/WTC I was as tempted as I’ve ever been to just hop the fucking tyrnstile. But no. I simply did not enter the station at all.
