\t\t\t\tI spotted this discarded, violated safe on 54th Avenue between 48th and 50th Streets in West Maspeth. It is not exactly an advertisement for SentrySafe, the maker of this item, or for any safe manufacturer.<\/p>\n

Safe Cracked<\/p><\/div>\n

I’m happy to report that I know nothing about how to crack open a locked safe. I guess this one was jackhammered or forcibly pried open with industrial strength Jaws of Life<\/a><\/b>. At first glance I assumed it was torched open but the photos show no evidence of meltage. Is meltage even a word? Hey, why not.<\/p>\n

A drawer, partly filled with what appears to be the same sandy white substance seen inside the safe’s door, was left nearby.<\/p>\n

I did not get close enough to touch the safe or inspect the unlikely possibility that anything was left inside. The sandy white stuff did not look like something I wanted to touch. As this object was almost certainly tossed from a criminal act I would not want to leave fingerprints or forensic evidence to suggest that I had anything to do with it. You can’t help wonder what the story is behind this.<\/p>\n

54th Avenue leads to the front gate of 4th Calvary Cemetery. I was headed there to see the new Garden of the Holy Family Columbarium<\/a><\/strong>. In one of the countless vagaries of Queens street name assignments I notice there are two 54th Avenues running parallel to each other in West Maspeth. This safe was seen on the crescent-shaped stretch of what I guess could be called 54th Avenue North. The map below shows another 54th Avenue on the next block. 54th Avenue South?<\/p>\n
