\t\t\t\tThis was an interesting find. About 14 years ago, after I got whacked from corporate, I hit the road<\/a><\/strong> for parts unknown to me, including Nebraska, the Dakotas, West Virginia,\u00a0and other places in\u00a0these United States of America. My mother made fun of me for these trips, asking “Why don’t you go to Paris or London or some place\u00a0normal?” Hah. What\u00a0is<\/em> normal, anyway? And who really needs normal when you can see, hear, and read about it from just about everyone you will ever know?<\/p>\n

In years to come I would be somewhat vindicated in my unorthodox choice of destinations.\u00a0I received dozens upon dozens of e-mail and postal inquiries and comments regarding\u00a0photos and stories I posted to Sorabji.COM<\/strong> from the places I visited.\u00a0Little Blue Run in Chester, West Virginia<\/strong><\/a> probably drew the most\u00a0correspondence, while certain North Dakota images<\/strong><\/a> inspired others to travel at least a little ways off the beaten path. You can never know\u00a0but I would think photos from “normal” places like Paris or London would have drawn few\u00a0if any comments, being such\u00a0common and munificiently photographed vacation spots.<\/p>\n

Today I discovered that not only did I photograph the Palace of Gold at the New Vrindaban Hare Krishna Community in\u00a0Moundsville West Virginia<\/strong><\/a>; but I also scanned a book\u00a0that I\u00a0obtained from that place.\u00a0Prabhupada’s Palace Of Gold<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(pdf) is a\u00a0somewhat lavishly produced 32-page volume describing the development of New Vrindaban and the Palace of Gold\u00a0after the community was\u00a0founded by\u00a0Kirtanananda Swami Bhaktipada’s\u00a0in 1968 and further inspired by visits from\u00a0His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.<\/p>\n

I don’t know anything about this stuff, though I have become more interested in Eastern thought and philosophy of\u00a0Buddhism and the like. I just wanted to\u00a0make good on the time spent scanning this book (at 600 glorious DPI)\u00a0so that others could read\u00a0what this volume has to say. From the looks of their web site the community of New Vrindaban<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0continues to prosper.<\/p>\n
