I did not know he had quit there, or if he got whacked, but he was never much of a presence for me over there. He says this is a much icer place to work on account of the space and the outdoors. I also chatted up an Asian woman who looked like she was 15 years old. She apologized for cutting in front of me, which she only sorta kinda did. It’s not a well organized line at the bar. She told me about a self-serve beer house in Brooklyn where you pay by the ounce. I thanked her for informing me of this, even though I actually already knew about it. A couple of exceptionally pretty women were engaged in what appeared to be some kind of drinking game. The sun blasted right into their faces and I could not a blemish find in my oh-so-brief lingering glance.

As much as I love this space the beer list is just bland as hell.

I was going to hit up the Astor Room to ask what’s up with the phone booths outside. A couple of workers told me there are going to be 4 of them. I would not have thought that the Astor Room does enough business that they can expect to fill all the tables that would cover the space between where the tables are now and the big building next door. But what, pray what what, do I know?

…

Just played Fishdom for too long. There is such a festive atmosphere here at S2. It’s like these people have never consumed alcohol before. They kow nothing of the ravages and ramifications of sustained alcohol consumption. Actually, neither do I.

I was at a bar last night where this old guy was holding court, educating and edifying a couple of millennials with his stories from the trenches. He spoke of meeting Bette Davis (sounds like it was him and 400 other people). He spoke of seeing Marlena Dietrich in concert (who, from his generation, hadn’t?). The millennials had no idea who she was. Noel Coward? Blink…

That is the last thing I want to end up as. I don’t even want to be old to begin with but I do not want to be some pompous old guy whose stories are transparently shallow but who passes them off as the sage experience of life’s Guru. It is such a damned stereotype.

The old guy had a good line, though. One of the kids had to go but he told the bartender to put one on his tab for the old guy. Bartender told him he had a beer coming. He responded “I’m ready.” It was funny. I mean, there are some jokes and comments that are old the first time they are told. That might be one of them. But it was funny that one time. Or maybe you had to be there.

…

Should leave S2 soon. It has not filled up at all, unlike most nights I am here. I am not here most nights. I should eat. I forget to do that most days.

Multitasking.

Tultimasking.

I am at S2, Studio Square, where I just had words with a busboy who used to work at Sunswick.
