Not going to stay long, since it appears some kind of event is going to commence in a half hour. I was talking about this place last night, at the Mets game, with a friend who paid for my ticket. He was not aware of The Windmill’s existence. Nothing to write home about but he is like me in his hyperlocal interests so I thought he’d want to check it out.

I do not follow baseball at all so this would never have crossed my radar but every Friday night at Citi Field is free t-shirt night. So I am wearing a fresh and clean Mets t-shirt — AMAZIN’ SINCE 1962. I thought the Mets formed in 1968, the year I was born.

A kid in front of us in line at Citi Field said something neither my friend or I had ever heard anyone say: “Shea was better.” I cannot believe anyone would feel that way but he seemed sincere. Shea was a depressing dump. The views from Citi are not much better than they were at Shea but the whole experience of the place is not even comparable to Shea. It’s like a miniature resort, at least when you buy the more expensive tickets. Those tickets give you access to the Foxwoods section, which looks like it is from a hotel or resort.

The kid was going to the game by himself. My friend, who is a long time baseball fan, said that going to games alone proves you are truly a fan of the sport. I used to be a fan of the game. I went to a few Yankees games alone. But I gave up on the sport, and the league in particular. The reverence in which these athletes are held is preposterous to me. If these athletes were put in the context of ancient times they would be classified as nothing less than gods.

Alright, I’m getting out of here. They are setting up some kind of tent and a dozen people just showed up… Dammit, this is MY Windmill.

…

At the 875 Third Avenue POPS. Saw the signs that a LinkNYC monolith is probably coming to Queensboro Plaza. There is a 6-digit number and a cent sign near the corner of Crescent and Queens Plaza North. That is like the angel of death, of sorts, for payphones. But this particular placement will be where no payphone ever existed. There were plenty of payphones in that area but I don’t think one ever existed on that particular corner. It does not really matter and I am happy to be wrong, of course.

There are also a bunch of those signals of incoming Links around Sutton Place. Those folks from that are going to fucking HATE those things.

I walked over here, as I often do, but it is uncommonly hot today. I felt a lot of heat. Sweating like crazy, even getting dizzy. Not really staying properly hydrated. And the bag is too damn heavy. Think I will hop a train home.

…

No, indeed, hauling that too heavy bag over the bridge in 90+ degree weather was not a good idea. Not good at all. Feeling the heat now, after dark.

…

It is the next day. Sunday. Feeling much better. Yesterday sucked. Don’t really have anything to say and not sure I want to try saying it anyway, since I’m still having trouble posting some things to the .MOBI. Had a mix of a day. Good bad and ugly. Maybe you did, too.

At the Windmill. Not going to stay long, since it appears some kind of event is going to commence in a half hour.
