The Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead in East Elmhurst is believed to be the oldest inhabited residence in America. For many years the owners of the house gave an annual tour of the grounds. On September 13, 2008, I was among dozens who got a guided tour of the old house. The house was extraordinary, though I admit that I was mostly interested in the cemetery, where I took several pictures seen here. I took many photos inside the house, but something strange happened: None of the photographs I took inside the house were saved to my camera's memory card. All photos I took at the cemetery and outside the house turned out fine, but every single photo I attempted to take inside the house was not recorded. Could the place be haunted? Aha, I do not believe in such things, but it was tempting to believe that the ghost or spirit something or someone ate the pictures I tried to take inside the Riker-Lent House. I honestly have no idea why the camera did not work inside the house that day. I never had a similar problem before or since. This series includes scans of the Riker family tree, a map of the cemetery, and a list of all burials.
