This barely-readable sighting of a UL telephone exchange number is from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This sign is a mess of overlaps in which at least 3 signs have been painted over each other, but the black-lettered part looks like it used to say "MANAGEMENT BORCHARD UL.8-0700" (or possibly "UL.8-6700"). If the Borchard company was based in New York City then UL could stand for either ULysses or ULster, both of which were in Brooklyn. There was also a ULysses exchange in New Jersey.
