If you look at enough metal doors on New York City sidewalks you will eventually see one of these old medallions from the Charles Hoelzer Iron Works company. I think I've seen about a dozen of these HAVemeyer exchange names around town. This is the only sighting I can recall which uses a 3-letter shorthand for the telephone exchange name.
