i went back for more at the big cemetery. i wanted to get some shots again with the dslr. and some more stained glass. those stained glass shots are hard to get. i never used to have the nerve to do it, either. you have to walk right up to the front door and stick your camera through whatever sized opening you can manage, and basically you just to take what you get. i spotted a beautiful one today that i’d never seen before. a sort of Last Supper glass that was almost impossible to see through the teeny-tiny openings in the door. and i rediscovered a glass that i forgot about, that i saw years ago. it showed Jesus’ face wiped out, but still discernible. haunting, i guess.
i finally made it into the chapel. i’ve never seen the inside before, since it’s only open weekends from 10am-2pm, hours at which i’ve rarely if ever been out there. as described by a friend who has seen the inside, it’s pretty dingy, and not particularly inspiring. a sign stating that an alarm system is in place, and to not approach the lectern or else you’ll set it off, was a little off putting, but i guess it’s reasonable. i might try to get in there again. i was nervous entering, feeling like the door had been left open by mistake or that i was somehow not allowed to enter even though the door was wide open.
then i waited and waited for the sun to move so that i could get a shadowless shot of a white cross stuck atop a metal stick. the cross is not attached to any grave and it looks strange to me, almost vulgar.
a gps tracking app says i walked over 8 miles, at an average speed of 1.81 mph. nice.
