I grabbed a few words from today’s 1000 random words and tried to get some writing energies going. it didn’t really work but here it is anyway. Just tried to think of as many synonyms as I could, filling 3 lines. Those 3 lines become 4 lines when moved from MS Word to WordPress. I could think of few real synonyms for Eugene Ormandy, though there might be had I known anything about his character. I think he was a conductor once described to me as feared, but what great conductor wasn’t?

Purposeless
Inane. Directionless. Without intent. Lacking direction. Idle. Going nowhere. Doing nothing. No reason. Unused. Forgotten. Waiting. Undervalued. Inopportune. Loitering. Sedate. Immobile. Stranded. Broken. Underutilized. Dead. Mute. Buried. Unneeded. Bored. Desiring. Emptied. Torpor.

Interesting to consider differences between purposeless objects and purposeless human beings. A purposeless object has no potential, whereas a human being with no assigned function is the opposite. To call an individual purposeless is not to say they are useless, but a purposeless object could more likely reach that threshold.

Terse
Brief. Succinct. Chipper. Wit. Witty. Poetry. Dry. Funny. Precise. Pithy. To the point. Not pompous. Acerbic. Wisdom. Maxim. Quotation. Dorothy Parker. Robert Lax. Yoko Ono. Glib. Wry. Pointed. Poignant. Flippant. Sarcastic. Controlled. Exact. Encomium. Panegyric. Resonant.

Anticosmetic
Naked. Bare. Ascetic. Genuine. Real. Blunt. Authentic. Literal. Nude. Wiped. Stripped. Natural. Organic. Unpolished. Guttural. Droll. Unflattering. Undoctored. Ugly. Beautiful. Filthy. Dirty. Unkempt. Unbathed. Pig Pen. Matthew McConaughey. Vulgar. Bereft. Unmollified. Unsoftened. Attacked. Injured. Damaged.

My first approach to this word was to invoke those opposed to cosmetic companies’ use of animal testing but I don’t know enough about that activist scene to fill three lines with prescient words. The definition of this word suggests that anticosmetic acts are deliberate attempts to destroy beauty but I would think that avoidance of and/or deliberate aversion to beauty is in the same spirit. It sounds like a political party. Meet Senator Jones, running for president on the Anticosmetic ticket.

Eugene Ormandy
Finlandia. Philadelphia. Conductor. Rachmaninoff. Vladimir Horowitz. Concerto. Academy of Music. LP Records. Thrift Shops. Beethoven. Hungary. Hungarian. Bartok. Liszt. Control. Master. Leader. Authority. Baton. Orchestra. Gesticulation. Mannerisms. Herbert von Karajan. Leonard Bernstein. Sibelius.

Unquenchableness
Insatiable. Bottomless. Needy. Desirous. Complaining. Thirsting. Hungering. Dry. Parched. Acrid. Consuming. Inhaling. Ingesting. Devouring. Relentless. Unrequitable. Craving. Desiring more. Wanting. Starved. Feed it. Feed the machine. Hungry. Chewing. Masticating. Uncomfortable. Panicked. Dying.

A lot of unpleasant associations come from considering this word: Needy people; individuals incapable of happiness; those whose emotional needs could never be met. With certain family members I felt unqualified to handle their emotional outlays, and in fact it was dangerous for me to attempt as any guidance or advice (should it even be contemplated) would be bad.
