- View toward Bakersfield Bar, 5060 Broadway, from 5057 Broadway
Tom's Foreign Auto Repairs is now Broadway Mechanic Services. The space formerly occupied by Bakersfield Bar at 5060 Broadway is now the Ming Moon Buffet. According to a Yelp review Bakersfield was a bad place where someone got murdered, maybe at the time I lived there. A little web sleuthing reveals that the space at 5060 Broadway might also have been called Passions Lounge. I don't know if the murder story is true, but Bakersfield had a somewhat estimable history. According to an August 22, 1992, story in the New York Times, "When Representative Joseph P. Kennedy, son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, spoke at a conference on Irish-American affairs in the neighborhood earlier this year, he had breakfast at Bakersfield."
