i got lost today. it was pretty cool. i ended up in an area i had not seen in years, though i remember the first time i was there with some clarity, though nothing remarkable happened. i just remember the street and a certain sign at a place of business, and i remmeber it any time i see a truck from that business i remmeber standing outside its headquarters(or what i thought was ite headquarters) on Borough Pl near Bulova Road or Lane or Avenue or whatever the Bulova street is named. I don‘t know why that memory is so vivid but it enters my mind daily, standing on that deserted-seeming road, 7 or 8 years ago, not sure where I was or where the road went from there.
i took a lot of photos today. about 400. i do not remember much of what it on the memory card at this moment but i‘ll wander through it later.
i wandered all about the Bronx this morning, albeit only on StreetView. once in a while i am seduced by the possibilities of StreetView but i always find it annoying and surprisingly useless for what legitimate uses I might have for it. My search for old phone numbers, for instance, those old telephone exchange name numbers still visible on buildings that have been around for generations, one might think that StreetView would, compared to visiting the areas, be a safe and less time-consuming and laborious way to find those numbers. alas, streetview is amazingly useless for that sort of thing. the signs are often unreadable, and even in th newer “HD“ imagery the clearly-readable signs are mangled beyond readability, and this wheen they are not obscured by a bus or truck or other object. streetview is a fun thing to wander through at times but i find it mostly useless.
i found myself on the BQE,not the Interstatepart but the side roads. a bunch of nudie clubs and night clubs, with their neon signs turned off and the oblique signage unlit, looked strangely coarse in the noonday sun. i have sometimes imagined that a neon sign in direct sunlight is like a hooker without her makeup. that‘s a late adolescent relic of writing that lingers in my mind with other idlenesses.
my hed hurts. it was windy and my new fleece jacket came through… defending me from the elements.
