i never thought i’d be so happy to see a windows startup screen, but today was the day i finished the repair job on that piece of shit vista computer. browsing the file system through a linux-based mini-OS i tracked down the bad drivers and renamed them, and now the thing starts up like it used to. a real relief. i have done no productive work for about a week on account of this. the repair job was pretty amazing by my standards and abilities. i don’t think of myself as a desktop tech support type. but the job i just pulled off is enough to set up a tech support business. i feel like i could salvage any goddam pc now.

on my phat new radio today i heard a program of symphonic arrangements of music from video games. this is something we used to joke about at the conservatory, when the fad was programming concerts of movie music. some movie music is good stuff, but that music usually existed before the movie. most movie music is filler or background sounds, and playing the stuff in concert is like playing the boom-chunk-chunk piano accompaniment of an opera aria as a solo piece.
on the other hand, video game music has come a long way since Mario Brothers. that’s not saying much…

my girl and i had a nice day out at the cemetery on sunday. we made it over to the bar across the street, which is an old school irish pub. she loved the place, which was cool. the ramble around the big yard was awesome. it was a nice day.
