Spent the afternoon at a friend’s place in Brooklyn. Friend of ~18 years who I know from my early corporate days is now CEO of Company XYZ, doesn’t matter what company. If you know me then you might know what company and the individual to whom I refer. If you do not know it does not matter anyway for any reason, not least of which is the purposes of this brief anecdote, which is about randomness and not name-dropping.
On my way home I reluctantly decided to check in at my former regular bar, a place I mostly ignore and/or avoid now. That avoidance has nothing to do with anybody or any incidents, I just have no desire to be another item for picking at on the gossip market of local bar culture. I never had that desire.
But the weekend bartender is a good guy who I like so I checked in for one on my way home.
To make an extremely long story short he said he got something akin to an apprenticeship with a custom furniture studio in the Bronx. Then he said “I’m going to be working on the new offices at ‘Company XYZ’.” And I was like, dude, I just spent the afternoon at “Company XYZ”‘s CEO’s place, been drinking beers and kicking the bullshit all afternoon which is why I’m only having one Singlecut here, known him a long time, something like 18 years, blahblah.
Random connections are invigorating. My head kinda jolted when the bartender uttered Company XYZ’s name. Is hilarious now that I think of it. The unexpected deluge of $19.99/lb Wild Caught Salmon was awesome. Bring on a deep-fried, Brooklyn rooftop Thanksgiving. Whoot!
