These pictures are from the summer of 2000, when my father and I drove up the long and winding roads to the small town of Sneedville, Tennessee. We didn't stay long. Our visit was inspired by my recent discovery of the Melungeons, a group then believed to have come from exotic inter-racial stock. Today's DNA science appears to have cleared much of the mystery about the Melungeons.
