These pictures are from an impromptu sneak preview of the fabulous new Rainey Park velodrome.
If early indications hold true then the "PED ONLY" signage on the lanes will be ignored and rules left unenforced will give bicyclists license to take over Rainey Park.
Among the more trivial side-effects of hurricane Sandy's pass through New York was the public's temporary access to Rainey Park.
With no explanation the city banned the public from Rainey Park for all of 2012. The city offered no explanation as to why Rainey Park in its entirety must be closed and offered no hint as to when the park might be made available to its tax-paying, largely non-bicyclist public.
The park was closed so that a bike lane could be paved.
Citizens who entered Rainey Park after hurricane Sandy blew away its barricades probably had no idea they were trespassing, and potentially subject to fines.
