A hangup call from 646-866-9198 came in just as I was adding 877-790-8062 to my phone’s reject list, this after an unsolicited call from that number came through yet again. I’ve never put a phone number on a reject list if that means I won’t see any evidence that these calls came in then that would be fine.

A call back to 646-866-9198, the number from which the day’s second apparent robocall came, leads to a Verizon wireless voicemail box. No one answers at that number. I also dialed surrounding numbers, such as 646-866-9197 and 646-866-9199, to see if this telespam had adjacent numbers that might provide identification. Nothing there, either. From my experience I can’t tell what the robots behind this number intend to sell or scam.

A few weeks ago I got a cold call from someone asking if he and his team could stop by my place and talk about my retirement planning. The call, from 732-452-6911, was unsettling since the caller seemed to know a few things about me, such as where I live and my age. The caller also seemed very casual about the inquiry, as if I should have expected the call.

I firmly said “No” to his request for an in-person meeting and never heard back. No one ever answers when you call 732-452-6911. Callers are sent to an Audix voicemail box with no outgoing message indicating what entity is responsible for calls made from there.

I think he said he was with AXA but in the throwback feeling of receiving telemarketing calls like I did 20 years ago I was not specifically listening for details. I have no connection to AXA, unless they somehow got that personal info about me from my bank. That would be especially surprising.
