I got a lot of work done the last couple of days. That is something I have not been able to say for a long time. It involved an open source search engine for the mailboxes site. Documentation is scarce and it looks like questions posted to the support forum all get ignored. Such is the open source “community”.

There are still a couple of things left to figure out. For some reason I can’t seem to understand how to set and search another index. But it’ll come. There also appears to be no way to log searches, as would be expected and as is apparently indicated in the software.

The weird thing was how I discovered a file on my server which seems to imply that I attempted to install this software once before, last summer. I have absolutely no memory of this, which would suggest I tried and just got nowhere with it. It’s strange finding evidence of my past pursuits when I have no idea I left it behind. Once in awhile I will find something written by me of which I have no memory. It’s like reading the words of someone who never existed.

So today’s work, while satisfying, might be of no value in the end. But it shone some light on just how bad that web site was, and still is, even after I cleaned up some crap. No wonder nobody uses it like they used to.

Nothing really to report on, just sitting at the desk most of the day. At the ghetto coffee shop now but wanting to get back to work. Again, words I’ve not spoken in a long time.
