one of the hazards of Amazon Prime is that 2nd day deliveries are often delivered overnight. at some level of abstraction i imagine that someone thinks they are doing me a favor by shipping things a day early, but it’s really a pain in the ass. i don’t like to miss these early deliveries because it seems like it wastes the time and resources of the delivery company. like i care. i do care, kind of.

today i got some new gear. a day early, i got a RAID appliance, which should provide some redundancy to my wretchedly incoherent backup strategies. hard drives fail, and the business can not catch up to this fact, or refuses to do so, so we now think of data storage and hard drives as replacable parts, like an automobile or an airplane, which can allegedly last forever with fresh parts. the RAID made an unpleasant grinding noise at first, which threatened to make me immediately insane, but so far it’sss so good, i guess. i mean, it’s a fucking hard drive, or a suite of hard drives, and it’s kind of hard to get excited about these things.

and i got a new camera. a Sony something that has a GPS in-built that is allegedly better than the Lumix. and it does other shit. wifi. and it was stupid cheap. just got it. still learning its quirks and shortcomings. the Lumix i got last year is showing its wear and tear.

and a bunch of picture books. they are not inspiring, the 2 that i looked through already. a third one awaits perusal. and tomorrow i leave UPS’s 15-hour window of delivery time open for receipt of a new cuisinart coffee maker and other sundry objects which i already forgot what they were. i like to do it that way. i order batches of shit off amazon, and then put the decision-making-process of the order out of my mind so that i can be surprised by the arrivals.

costco was a thrill ride today. i bought 3 giant bags of coffee beans, securing my coffee supply for the rest of 2011. and 4 steaks. steak and coffee. breakfast of champions.

i passed through the park where i spotted a sacrificial chicken or rooster (not sure about my livestock) a few weeks ago. some kids were playing soccer or kickball or whatever, and the ball rolled my way. i ran after it and kicked it back to them. i saved the day.

i got no real work done today, on account of sleeping past noon, showing off my fabulous life to a lovergirl who stayed the night, and the early arrival of the RAID and other items. tomorrow and the next few days might be about the same. got to get some more work done in between these recreational flourishes.
