walked the queensboro, the wards island, and the triborough bridges
today. saw horses, and horseshit, on randalls island. saw a lot of
caucasians on the upper east side. (“it’s just another ethnic
neighborhood” i used to say, when i lived there, to gasps of disbelief
from visitors… white people aren’t ethnic, they said. white people are
just… white! white people, it was said, had no claim to ethnicity
when it was white people who virtually created “outer ethnicities” and
“minorities” and racial divides (this spoken by the whitest friends i knew
at the time. i bet they voted McCain). ah, but today the old ‘hood looked
like the most ethnic neighborhood i’ve seen lately — as white as
Greenpoint.
