What a bummer to notice this today. My favorite midtown east place to stop in and order an unbelievably over-priced grilled cheese & bacon sammich has closed shop.

Plaza Diner. December, 2005.

I don’t know where my most recent receipt from the Plaza Diner is at the moment, but I believe I visited the place within the last few months. At the right is a Plaza Diner receipt from 2005, when I probably ordered the same thing as ever. The more recent scrap of ephemeral detritus is probably languishing in the oppressively huge pile of receipts yet to be scanned for My Receipts. In 2005 it cost $8.60. Today I seem to remember the meager grilled cheese & bacon running ten or eleven bucks before tip. Something similar and superior could be found over the Queensboro for about $5.

So long, Plaza Diner. With the late-great Tramway Diner having closed up a year or so ago (how do I not have a receipt from that palce?) I guess the next best stop for a double-digit priced Jack Benny in this area is the Moonstruck Diner on 58th Street.
