So I had a bazillion reward points on my credit card, and Amazon marked down the Samsung Gear VR headset to $60. Click click, I had it by noon the next day. I maybe coulda had it the same day if I was in Manhattan. Cost me nothing with the reward points. Setup was a little constipated but I managed. This set fits over my glasses quite a bit better than either of the previous headsets I tried. But they are still a tad uncomfortable, and I’d be worried about scratching the lenses on my glasses. Image quality is not as I remembered it on the device I tried at Chad’s place about a year ago. That seemed close to 1080p, but I might have been so impressed by the VR stuff that it only seemed that way. This set is the newer version of that one I used last year. But holy shit it’s amazing. You truly and genuinely feel like you are somewhere else, completely surrounded by a stadium, a volcano, outer space. I only gave it 15-20 minutes, so as not to nauseate myself with too much VR too quickly. I didn’t wade through too much of the content, which looked as pedestrian as I remembered it from other headsets. I want to make some content of my own for this but it is probably out of my league programming-wise. Sigh. The future of content belongs to techies. The thing really should come fully assembled. I mean seriously. When I saw that the price had been marked down I figured a new set was on its way. If I was going to get one at all it should be this one, since future sets might not support the Galaxy Note 5, which I got fairly recently.
