Back at the Rose Main Reading Room, which reopened a couple of weeks ago after being closed for maybe 2 or 3 years. It is not as stupendously beautiful as I seem to remember, but still a great place to be. I actually think there are too many books. People seem to look at them but I rarely see anyone taking one off the shelf.
I need to pay a visit to the Library of Congress. My attempts to get materials via Interlibrary Loan got nowhere, and with no explanation. Actually I think the LOC denied the requests because they are a research library, which means everything there is non-circulating. I might have thought ILL was an exception to that rule but I guess not. Bastards.
A myth about the LOC which I never thought to look into is that one copy of every book and periodical ever published is required to be donated to the library. Somehow I made it this far in life believing that to be true.
I walked here from AsLIC. Reflecting on a long and at times beautiful conversation I shared with a friend last night. Thinking of walking back to AsLIC. I have the energy, which is strange since I have eaten nothing but a banana this day.
Really, nothing to say except that the great Rose Reading Room is back. Yay.
