I ordered a new set of glasses today. This was at a place on Steinway Street. The woman behind the counter was so shockingly beautiful I could barely turn my eyes away from her. I have not had such lustful thoughts for a person in my presence in a long time.
I had some success today. I have not been able to say that in a long time. Nothing to show for it just yet but that will change. I was hoping to keep my sorabji.com/pictures stuff in the same look by mirroring the pages using wget. I started doing this last year. But something about the server crash and the move to the new box in December made mirroring impossible, and also made that whole section invisible to search engines. I don’t know why but bots and scrapers get “500 Internal Server Error” messages when attempting to index or scrape the site, which at present is still using the abandoned Menalto Gallery 2. I don’t know why it took me so long but I dumped the /pictures into Piwigo, as I have done with other Menalto installs. Piwigo seems to be the de facto alternative to Menalto. I wanted to make jAlbum my choice but it is just too different a product and not well designed for collections of thousands of photos.
Piwigo isn’t perfect. Neither was Menalto Gallery2. But Piwigo is no Menalto Gallery2. The latter product did a whole lot more than Piwigo, and more intuitively — for me at least. Progress in technology, as always, comes with compromise.
I am going to a meeting of some people who think LinkNYC is an Orwellian menace. I don’t like LinkNYC either but my reasons are different. I don’t worry much about surveillance or being monetized at every blink. That is just the world we live in. People are making money off my movements and that’s just the way it is. If you do not want to be indexed than do not be alive. The meeting should be fun. They seem to think I am some kind of celebrity.
A TV producer and interviewer was researching a piece on payphones in Albany. She naturally enough found my site. From there she found all my other stuff, or some of it at least. She was interested enough in all that other stuff that she dumped the idea of the payphone story and wants instead to interview me about my other pursuits. A profile, perhaps. She’s quite young. I found her Facebook page. It had only a few postings, one from 4 or 5 years ago. In that posting she mentioned that she was in the 10th grade. I think she will be a college senior when school starts again in a month.
I’m going home.
