I was surprised at first by how few payphones and phone booths appear in the 80s.nyc imagery. But then I realized that the cameras are often pointed up, skipping over the sidewalk level where such structures would be, and further obscuring them with location information printed over the bottom of the image as almost happens in this image. Here are the only payphones I could find today, with two enclosures at the bottom left. Will look for more as my mouseclick patience permits.
