Here is something I’ve intended to assemble for a long time. It’s a selection of some of the random wrong numbers and misdirected calls that have arrived at my old landline phone number, which I transferred to magicJack a number of years ago. There are a number of calls from what sounds like the same person identifying himself as either Chris Walters and Brian Reynolds. I edited out the phone numbers he left but they were different every time. He was trying to coax someone named Irma into calling him back, I think, but I couldn’t say what his game was.
The origins of most of these calls are unknown to me, with a few exceptions. Track #31 is me calling in from a payphone, grousing about how so many things in life just do not work. Track #46 contains sounds of people talking outside a grocery store. I captured that sound by calling in from a LinkNYC kiosk nearby. The same is true of the last track, which contains the sound of a saxophonist playing in Times Square, right next to a LinkNYC kiosk. Other than that these are all either wrong numbers or unwanted calls.
