Since welcoming the avocado into my diet it’s become a challenge to find edible portions. At the supermarket I spotted a woman squeezing one avocado after another, on a display of probably 100 avocadø. Her experience was the same as mine at this same store a couple of days previous. “They are hard as a rock” I said to her, not expecting a response. She laughed and commented that these will be edible in 5 months. I said “Just be patient.” Pleasant exchanges with strangers, such as this, do not happen much to me. More likely I’d be stared at, ignored, or just waved off. I’ll never see or know this woman again but for the sake of the unsqueezably hard avocado it was a nice little human encounter.

Behaviors of strangers. There’s a guy I’ve seen around the ‘hood for years. Tall, lanky, with a permanent look of chagrin and irritability. He once made a comment to me at Rainey Park, something to do with the conditions of the place. I have no memory except that I was with  the Muslim Hottie and she also could not understand what he said. I recently watched him jump the turnstile at 36th Avenue. Any time I see him now my first thought will be something like “Jackass”, “Thief,” “Piece of shit.” Yeah, I think highly of fare evaders. Do people who do this understand that strangers label them for their illegal behavior? If there was a bounty for calling out fare evaders I’d be a rich person, not the poorie I am today.
