Today I observed a subway behavior that never registered with me. A woman, slow-moving and having difficulty in standing up from a seated position, stood up from her seat and. instead of exiting the train at the current stop, she stood in place at the unopened door on the opposite side of the car. By my reading she did this because if she remained seated until the train arrived at her destination she would not have time to make the maneuver of tanding up from her seated position and getting to the door before it closed on her. She stood up while the train was not moving and remained standing as the train moved the the next station.
It seemed strange to me at first, because I took her seat and naturally expected her to exit the train. But no, she had a plan. At first I thought there’d be some kind of men-are-not-entitled-to-sit backlash at a seemingly able-bodied male (my assbones hurt like hell today but who would know?) taking the seat of a somewhat handicapped woman. Nothing like that happened.
Speaing of nothing I seem to have learned why theon-site super refused to help move my air conditioner a few weeks ago. It seems he is suing the owner of the building over an injury that occurred while under his employ. The injury, perhaps, has made him incaapable of the job he was hired to perform. He still lives at the building so it seems things could be tense or uncomfortable between those two but I don’t know. In the 40-something years he’s owned the building Tom has probably been sued before, or at least had court papers filed against him.
Too bad I gotta go.
