This was not supposed to be an 18K kinda day, but there it is. In some fever dream confusion I forgot which way the street numbers ascend and descend in this area I’ve lived in for over 25 years. The picture from the UN is from a few days ago and has nothing to do with anything today. I have so much raw sewage streaming through my head there is no way to know where to start sanitizing. Two people were killed on the Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge bake path. I walked that path hundreds of times when it was still pedestrians/bike. Many times the walk was peacable but other times not so much. It was never just bikes. It was scooters, e-scooters, motorcycles, anything on two, three, or even four wheels, riders racing like speed was their air supply. Collisions occured. Bikes HURTLED through the air. One bike came crazy close to landing on me. I witnessed this twice but that’s enough to infer that incidents happened for more often then would ever be reported. Only when there is a fatality is there even a chance of it making the news outlets. However common collisions might have been it was only a matter of time before something like this occurred. Some would say it is statistically irrelevant, and the need for speed will never be sated. We still don’t know exactly what happened but the need for speed almost certainly played a part in this ghastly occurrence. I’m still thinking about it, posting here more or less out of nowhere, I got nowhere else to go.

18K Was For Another Day
