I must have got some sleep last night but it was front-loaded. Woke at 12:30 and basically never got back to sleep. I’ve had a somewhat concerning number of incidents lately that I don’t remember happening before. I got to bed at 5:30pm only to wake up at 6:30pm, and hour later. But I waske up thinking it is 6:30am the next day and I slept the night. Time to commence the morning ablutions! I decide. At some point it hits me that the day is still the as when I went to sleep, but it can take a good long time to snap out of it. The risks are many. Most recently, as verified by playing back my video recording of myself showering, I watched mytself ingest the morning meds I should never take at night on account of getting them mixed with booze. That’s what killed Sandra, and while her pills’ potency was probably much higher than mine, and she probably poured significantly more booze onto it than I did, it is still a condition to be aware of.
This is why I record my showers. To verify if something like this happened.
Yesterday I returned home earlier than usual, feeling the weight of years spent in the apartment. The air itself was listless and stroking me in ways that failed to stimulate. I feel like a forst has grown around me in that place, and my forst is a slum of failure.
I have managed to declutter some pretty hefty objects. An old multi-function printer/scanner is now in a recycling shopping cart at Staples, along with an old dead VCR. The first chunk of the printer was delivered via granny cart, which was some kind of adventure. The VCR got there by subway, but the final piece of the printer, which weighed more than the larger piece, got there by Uber for $10. I didn’t want to do the granny cart not because of laziness but I wanted to go on to other destinations without having to return the granny cart home.
I ended up at Calvary, thinking outloud about what it would take, what kind of planning, tocreate a guided tour of Calvary. A real-life tour would never happen, as I would not want to do it any but the cemetery has not come across as very welcoming to the community. So I’d send people one by one with a location-specific app that only works when you are there.
What are the implications of selling a guided tour such as this when the grounds are private property? It’s probably problematic. I would probably not be able to sell the app but I could beg for donations.
Speaking of thinking outloud, I’ve been walking and talking and recording fresh audio for a sequel of sorts to Payphone Radio. DOing this for the past month or so has already put me in a familiar position: I am buried in more audio content than I have time or temperment to process or edit. I actually got AI to do some of the audio process, to make cell phone calls sound more like a 1990s landline telephone call. But results vary, and as with most things AI I find that I could likely getter equal or better results simply doing it myself in an audio editor. On the other hand the AI is not doing anything miraculous and if it saves me the time then what’s the problem?
SOmething unexpected happened on the walk to Steinway Street this AM. There will typically be a group of all-night club-goers who get their sunrise sustenance at the St. James Deli on 34th Avenue. That’s a historic place in my lore but that’s another story. These groups can be pretty rowdy and still-drunk but until today they never paid me any mind, walking through their gathering on my way to an honest living.
Today, however, a young woman was screamingat 20-something dude and, as I passed behind him, she pelted him with water from a bottle of Poland Spring. The wateer also pelted on the face, causing hyena-like screams from the other parties gathered around. I want at least threaten to slap her but what good would come of that or any altercation? It was only water, not beer or booze, and I took the road of just ignoring her. She stupidly pretended to act like she did not know her water had reached my face along with her intended target.
I’ve been working with AI to relaunch my old receipts site. Already, it’s become a waste of time, consuming all kinds of compute within less than an hour. THe new site would have a lot more depth than the current one, which itself replaced a version of the site that had all kinds of hidden stories and bells/whistles. THis one will too if I follow through with it. Using AI, which has a lot of difficulty choosing efficiencies over expensive processes, it might take months to buid out a site with 20,000 scans. It is pretty neat some of what I built, though. Points on the map are geocoded, which is typically inaccurate by a small distance. I can now drag and drop the points to the correct location and write the correct coordinates to the receipts information file.
