I’ve been working on my radios, radii, radia, reassembling the stuff I’ve been incoherently putting together for so many years. I should say “incoherent”, but the stuff is all over the place in ways that only the most determined would be willing to piece together. For some material I think the format of live radio works better than podcasting or any other stationary format, though I’ll probably give in and do both anyway. The latest work involves editing and posting the payphone calls I’ve made, which I think go back as far as 2008. Back then I was trying too hard to be Joe Frank. Lately I’ve given in to just being myself, but with the noir flourish of making all calls through the coarse and unreliable medium of the public telephone. Some narratives get disjointed or interrupted because a call made from a payphone simply did not work, even though it seemed like it did. As I said years ago, any endeavor that relies on a working public telephone network is in peril from the start.

I guess we don’t call Shoutcast streams radio stations. Just “radios”. So far I’ve put together four of them. On one radio you will hear nothing but that 5 or 6 minute audio clip of me making unusual-for-me noises while sleeping. I posted it here last week. I can’t stand to listen to it myself but as a weird novelty I think it will get some kind of attention. Another radio has a few tracks of sounds I recorded at a small liquor shop and package lounge in Parry, Florida. It’s basically going to be my old Soundcrap feature. Another future station will be all 3D/binaural sounds. Then I have to decide what, if anything, to do with all the recordings of myself talking in the shower.

I like how it sounds, the new payphone radio. I don’t mind the tedium of editing and filling in ID3 tags.

That is all I have to say at the moment.
