I’ve always thought it funny that this humble lot at 21st Street and Hoyt Avenue North in Astoria is called a “SITTING AREA” when there is no place to sit. I guess it’s BYO chair.
A trip back in time via Streetview reveals a couple of curios: Since as far back as 2007 it appears there never has been anyplace to sit, and there also used to be a lot more trees present in those square patches of thatch. Maybe the trees got infected with a virus or something, otherwise it’s hard to imagine why the Parks department would remove them.
This should be called a “STANDING AREA” not just because there’s nowhere to sit, but because of the standing water.
