Favorite MTA hack is taking a subway one way and, within two hours of swiping the MetroCard, getting a free transfer to a bus for the return trip. It’s not always possible but when it works you get a round trip on one fare. Works both ways, too. Bus one way, subway back. But subway first usually gives more time to be where you’re going.
