The Japanese woman turned out to be a huge bore. Self-obsessed. Not good with words, despite claiming to be as such. Blocked on all channels except for this one, since she had no interest in knowing it existed.
I’ve been commencing my commute at a different subway station. It’s interesting what a difference it makes, or how different it is from one station to the next. My usual station feels subdued, quiet, and calm. It gets less sunlight than the other new-to-me station, which can be blinding to a point where I see people cowering to avoid it.
Each station is like a little city. People recognize each other but never speak. We have sexual fantasies about each other that will never be consummated. We make assumptions, judgments, classifications and we assign strangers to castes based on superficial glances and sartorial biases.
I feel I am missing out on the AI thing. Unlike NFTs, crypto, the metaverse, and whatever else has been the next big thing these past years I think AI reached an inflection point. It is coming to get us unless we come get it first. In its text exertions I hear it spoonfeeding itself from the rotgut sewers of angry message boards and possibly private emails. Its imagery derives from copyrighted material and stolen work. Not unlike ay work of human-generated art, up to a point. All work derives from something that came before. Words derive from the alphabet. Alphabets derive from words as a means of codifying and systemizing. If nothing is allowed to derive from earlier work there would be no journalism. Blahblahblah. I don’t know but something in the AI wave needs to be reigned in and I feel like someone who could do that. Reign in the rain. Train the rain. The password-cracking stuff is eye-opening. Weak passwords are cracked in seconds. 18-character passwords with non-alphanumeric characters and a healthy mix of random could take 800 years to crack. Would it be worth it? At the end of 800 years what could possibly have been worth cracking someone’s password? What will the nihilists do with AI? Will the already dull notion that AI should be used for vanilla purposes eventually be subsumed by dark realities?
I don’t know but I want to find a way into it. I belong in a land of text prompts. English is the new programming language.
