i marched out to calvary feeling like a conquerer today. i have been in search of the burial site of Dominic Salvatore Rizzo (the fictional burial site) which appeared in the film “Midnight Cowboy.“ i found it today, ending about 12 hours total of wandering the grounds, mostly directionless but finally arriving at a crux, a reliable crux, around which to focus my m£wanderings. basically i came down to a tree. a single tree which appeared to the right of Rizzo‘s head, and which partly obscured the Kosciuszko Bridge/BQE, that tree is still htere 40+ years later, looking basically the same in shape and contour, so i walked the grounds in a diagonal line such as to keep the tree in place, in state.
and that led me waaaay the hell out to section 8, far far far from where i expected to land.
the cemetery scene in Midnight Cowboy is not as iconic as the funeral scene from the Godfather, but I became interested in it while watching the film and randomly spotting the scene filmed at Calvary. i did not know that another feature film besides The Godfather filmed a scene there. the cemetery is unnamed in the script and i find no reference to it on the public Intertubes.
it was fun. a tiny triumph for my tiny life.
